Trying to explain Christina Shmigel’s work through conventional means is like trying to express a friend’s personality by describing her hair color. Industrial, spare and desolate yet calming and hopeful at the same time, Shmigel’s sculpture captures both a sense of yearning and a sense of loss.

To tell her story, we took inspiration from Shmigel’s sketches, diagrams and studio ephemera and built an inviting web space that combines video, music and images of her work that allows viewers to appreciate both the artist and her art, and the intricately woven story behind them both.
